[SUGGESTION] List of minor villages/settlements

» by clockworkcrow » 15th Apr 2018, 1:36 pm

Yo!

So players create podunk villages, crap towns and other random settlements on the fly without doing an official lore submission for them. But since some pretty momentous stuff can happen in them (being burnt down, wiped out by disease, [insert thread hook here]), maybe they deserve their own roster.

For instance, say your character grew up in the idyllic village of Fantasyville in Rugnos before some Uks torched it to the ground. Surely there must have been survivors, NPCs or other players that might know about it.... right? It could be used as a plot hook later (burn the Uks that burnt your village, yo), or just referenced in another thread.

So what I suggest is having a pinned topic somewhere appropriate with a template for players to submit their podunk villages. It would then be edited into the OP. The template could be something like:

Name of the settlement:
Location of settlement:
Link to thread(s) where it was mentioned: (could be a character profile or other thread)
Event(s) that occurred in settlement: (plague, magemarked person burned illegally, monster attack, Uk raid, etc)
Link to OOC account: (person who first mentioned/created the village)

That way players who are stumped for a village name or idea can refer to this list, and if they want to plot with the creator of a village, they can do that. For instance, maybe they want to make a surviving relative of the character whose village got raided. And perhaps if the village is used in enough threads and sufficiently developed, it can then be submitted for lore review.

Heyo @clockworkcrow

After talking with my fellow staff about it, we've decided that this is a pretty solid idea. I'll have to work some technicalities out, but don't be surprised if a new lore index like this pops up in the near future :o

& If anyone else from the community has some suggestions/objections to add here, speak now or forever hold your peace!

Would there be a place for a tourist note? Like, I see that events were mentioned, but what if the place is known for something. World's tallest Jenga set, really tasty pastries, that sort of stuff. Not historical events but a mention of something an RPer could have their characters see while there like "oh there's a pretty neat statue of Taneth in the town square" sort of thing.

I give my approval for the village that invented Tur Jenga

(no but srsly having a brief description in the entry going over Landmarks or something would be completely doable)

#shilohNotes

The idea is a good one.

A bit of additions.

To keep things organized, could the appended map be indexed with alphabets and numbers at the borders? Would be like an actual world map.

This makes it far easier to find towns and know which ones are in the same puzzle piece, or near each other.

The index could go like

B17

- Town - Morning Moor
Population : 5000
(In)famy: 4/5
Landmarks: Melting Gates, Rock with a woman's face
Notable people: Mr Notes, Miss Diamond
Notable events: Point form and if applicable, thread links

- Town B
Etc

- Village C
Etc

B18
